Instability of subcooled boiling film on a vertical wall

چکیده
Consider a vertical plate with a leading edge. The temperature of the plate is above the spontaneous nucleation temperature, so that vapor completely covers the plate. Two-dimensional quasi-parallel theory is used to examine the stability of the two-phase system. Numerical calculations show that the main parameter determining the thickness of the vapor film and its stability is the difference between the temperature of the heated vertical plate and the saturation temperature of the liquid. As the thickness of the vapor film is made smaller, the nose of the neutral curve approaches that of the corresponding one-phase liquid. The overall temperature difference between the plate and liquid bulk does not strongly influence stability properties. 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Modeling of Upward Subcooled Flow Boiling of Refrigerant-113 in a Vertical Annulus
In this paper, a modified two-fluid model has been adopted to simulate the process of upward vertical subcooled flow boiling of refrigerant R-113 in a vertical annular channel at low pressure. The modified model considers temperature dependent properties and saturation temperature variation and was validated against a number of published low-pressure subcooled boiling experiments. The results s...
متن کاملExperimental Study on the Effect of Magnetic Field on Critical Heat Flux of Ferrofluid Flow Boiling in a Vertical Tube
In the present work, the critical heat flux measurements were performed for the subcooled flow boiling of pure water and magnetic nanofluids (i.e., water + 0.01 and 0.1 vol.% Fe3O4) in a vertical tube. The effect of applying an external magnetic field on the CHF variation was studied experimentally as well. The obtained results indicated that the subcooled flow boiling CHF in the vertical tub...
متن کاملThe Effect of Linear Change of Tube Diameter on Subcooled Flow Boiling and Critical Heat Flux
One of the major industry problems is the flow boiling, where reaching to the critical heat flux (CHF) condition can lead to a temperature jump and damage of the systems. In the present study, the effects of a uniform change in tube diameter on subcooled flow boiling and CHF was numerically investigated. The Euler-Euler model was used to investigate the relationship between the two liquid and v...
متن کاملInvestigation of interfacial behavior during the flow boiling CHF transient
Vertical upflow boiling experiments were performed in pursuit of identifying the trigger mechanism for subcooled flow boiling critical heat flux (CHF). While virtually all prior studies on flow boiling CHF concern the prediction or measurement of conditions that lead to CHF, this study is focused on events that take place during the CHF transient. High-speed video imaging and photomicrographic ...
متن کاملSubcooled two-phase flow boiling in a microchannel heat sink: comparison of conventional numerical models
Subcooled flow boiling in multi-microchannels can be used as an efficient thermal management approach in compact electrical devices. Highly subcooled flow boiling of HFE 7100 is studied in two microchannel heat sinks to choose a proper numerical model for simulating boiling flows in microchannels. Results of five different numerical models, including Volume of Fluid (VOF), Eulerian boiling, Eul...
